In today’s first reading, we learn of Paul’s travels to Antioch to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In reading Acts 13, I see how we, as children of God, can take Paul’s lead and spread love, friendship and words of understanding to family, friends and those in need during these troubling times.
Though this pandemic has created great physical distance between us and our loved ones, technology has provided ways for us to reach out to them virtually. I been very fortunate and blessed to have weekly Zoom calls with close and extended family members. While times are troubling, I can take solace in the fact that there are silver linings for me. My family and I have connected with friends and relatives that we have not spoken to in many years. We have provided comfort and support to those close to us who have been impacted by COVID-19, both directly and indirectly. Many have been a blessing to us as well.

We, just like Paul, can be messengers of hope, despite our lack of close proximity to those in our communities, in a number of ways. Drive over to see friends, albeit from a distance. Provide much needed food and supplies to the elderly and those in need. Ensure that our children lead as close to a normal life as humanly possible.
In the future, as we look back upon this time, I believe that we will see this as a turning point in how we treat one another in our global society.
